EXCHANGE OF LETTERS
relating to point 2 of the Arrangement in the form of an exchange of letters between the European Economic Community and the Eastern Republic of Uruguay on trade in mutton and lamb
Letter No 1
Sir,
With reference to the Arrangement between the Eastern Republic of Uruguay and the European Economic Community on trade in mutton and lamb, signed on 14 October 1980, and in particular to the discussions which have taken place between the two Parties in accordance with point 14 of the said Agreement thereof, I have the honour to inform you that the Uruguayan authorities have recorded their agreement to consider France and Ireland as sensitive areas taking into account the temporary factors indicated by the European Economic Community.
To that end, the competent Uruguayan authorities undertake to avoid any change in the traditional export trade flows of Uruguayan products covered by that Agreement to France and Ireland during the period 1 April 1984 to 31 March 1985.
In addition, the Government of Uruguay understands that this undertaking shall only be valid provided that the Voluntary Restraint Agreement remains in force without amendment.
I should be grateful if you would kindly acknowledge receipt of this letter.
Please accept, Sir, the assurance of my highest consideration.
For the Government of
the Eastern Republic of Uruguay
